Bayou Rouge - Funeral services for Marvin Dempsey Bertrand will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 27, 2021, at the First Pentecostal Church of Bayou Rouge, LA. Rev. Bob Fruen will officiate the funeral services. Burial will take place in the First Pentecostal Church Cemetery of Bayou Rouge.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marvin Dempsey Bertrand, known to many as "Dempsey" on Friday, December 24, 2021, at his sister's home in Slidell, at the age of 60. He was a longtime resident of Palmetto and was a retired Correctional officer from Angola State Penitentiary. He enjoyed the outdoors, was an avid hunter, and raised horses and cattle. He had a caring and compassionate personality. He cherished his family and loved spending time with them. His pastime was spent with his dog or "four-legged friend", "Toot Toot". He will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.
He is survived by his sisters, Sheila Bertrand Driskill and husband, Everett Driskill, Jr.; and Donna Bertrand Moses and husband, Henry "Hank" Moses; two nieces, Kelly Talley and Joel Oustalet II, and Rachel Marquez and Omar; two nephews, Chris Leonard and Courtney; and Brennan Driskill; one great-niece, Peyton Talley; and two great-nephews, Benjamin Marquez and Cayden Leonard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joel Bertrand and Dolores Chenevert Bertrand; and his sister, Rebekah Lazarus.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 27, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. at First Pentecostal Church of Bayou Rouge (1818 Highway 360, Palmetto, LA, 71358).
