Harold Briggs

Opelousas-A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Harold Leo Briggs at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 1, 2020, at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Opelousas.  Rev. Fr. Greg Simien will celebrate the Mass.  Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas, LA.

Mr. Briggs was a longtime resident of Opelousas and passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2020, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette at the age of 79. He was a U. S. Army Veteran who proudly served his country and served with the Louisiana National Guard for many years.  He worked as a sales manager for several distribution companies and was a talented carpenter.  He enjoyed reading and watching westerns on television.  He was interested in History about Louisiana and the Civil War.  He loved tending to his animals especially his mule, Cal and his cats, Domino and Blue. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Bonnie Veillon Briggs of Opelousas; son, Scott Briggs of Eunice; and daughter, Kelly Briggs Bourgeois of Crowley; and 3 grandchildren, Lainey Briggs, Bryce Bourgeois, and Brenna Bourgeois.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo Vernon Briggs and Mildred Mistric Briggs.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 1, 2020, from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas.  A Rosary will be prayed at 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
