Broderick “Rik” Dejean

April 21, 1952 — May 22, 2020

Broderick Charles DeJean, 68, was called to his eternal resting place on May 22, 2020. He entered this world on April 21, 1952 in Opelousas, LA, born to Robert and Loretta DeJean. He is survived by his brother-in-law Dick Alario, sister-in-law Jeanette DeJean, nieces Christine DeJean, Courtney Moore, Lecie Alario Israel and Stacee Alario Reeves, and nephews Robb DeJean and Tyler DeJean. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Chip DeJean, Bob DeJean, Jr. and sister Sherri DeJean Alario

Rik’s time on earth showed us a version of compassion rarely seen. Through his law practice and in his personal life, he gave his time and effort generously, freely and without fail. He was instrumental in the drafting, lobbying, and passage of Louisiana’s Barrier-Free Design legislation, which requires public and private facilities to provide access features for the handicapped, especially for those in wheelchairs. His sense of humor imparted smiles and laughs to all that knew him, and his faith in Our Good Lord and His teachings were beacons for many in need of comforting.

A memorial service will be held at a later date due to COVID-19 restrictions.
